Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Bon Vicheka

Bon Vicheka is a 13-year-old student in the 8th grade at The House of Joy and Happiness School in Thkeng village, Rohas commune, Rovieng district, Preah Vihear province.

Bon Vicheka is the eldest child in her family and has one younger sister. Her parents are farmers, raising two cows and growing rice on their 20m×60m land. Vicheka’s family depends on their rice yield of 1 ton per year to support their family.  Vicheka’s family does not sell this rice, but keeps it for their own family to eat and survive. As they are unable to produce more rice to sell, Vicheka’s family does not have a stable income, which highly affects Vicheka’s studies.  Not only is Vickeka busy with house work, but the family does not have the means to support her at school.
