Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

San Kunnea

San Kunnea is a 12-years-old student in 6th grade at The Lefkowitz Family School in Svay Chrom village, Beung Bat Kandol commune, Bakan district, Pursat province.

San Kunnea has three siblings, two sisters and one brother and she is the second child in her family. Her parents, mother names Khorn Kunthea, ages 39, father names San Sok, ages 51, are rice farmers. Besides growing rice, they raise a cow that exchange labor from other farmer. Before, her mother worked at Thailand, but now she came back home because her age is out of limited. Nowadays, she stays home looks after children. And her father works at cassava field that can earn 25,000 Riel to 30,000 Riel per day. In addition, her sister, names San Maly decided to stop studying at 9th grade and work at garment factory (making clothes) but not yet gain salary. Depend on her family situation; Kunnea cannot concentrates on her lessons well some time she has to skip school by helping her parents’ works.
