Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Chim Sithuon

Chim Sithuon is a 10 years old student in fourth grade at The Chres School in Kampot Province, Kampong Trach District, Boeng Sala khang Tbong Commune, Phum Chres Village.

Seithuon has gotten an oldest sister, and her family has five members such as: father, mother, young sister, young brother, and Seithuon. Her parents are farmers who own half hectares of farmland for growing rice. Seithuon narrated that their farmlands were located furthest from the water resource and far from her village, which increasingly difficult to get water to supply their rice field which depends on natural rain only, so it made her family couldn’t get the water resource for growing rice when it didn’t rain follow the natural rain.

According to the above reasons so her parents could gather 10 sacks of rice’s production and amount one sack of rice was about 55Kgs to 60Kgs. Seithuon’s mother revealed that after rice’s fruit gathering then her mother sold out for 5 sacks of rice to pursuantly pay for debts of ailment’s treatment, rice’s fertilizers and daily consumptions.

After gathering rice was completely finished, they haven’t still stayed at home but they went to work as seasonal workers in order to get 10$ per day. For surplus work, Seithuon’s mother had to make some hats of bamboo that one day could make 2 of hats (1 hat equal 1$) in order to patch up on food. However that 2$ was not the regular income for their daily food.

For Seithuon’s future goal, she wished to be a teacher of mathematic because she really wanted to teach this subject very much to the kids of a next generation in the future. Moreover, she also wants to earn money to support her family.
