Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Bun Sokhun is a 16 year-old student who entered the Girls Be Ambitious program in December, 2015. At the time, she enrolled in the eight grade at The CREDO School in Ang Kanh Village, Me Teuk Commune, Bakan District, Pursat Province. She is now in the 9 grade. She will take her national exam in next year.

Sokhun was born in a poor family with four siblings and she is the youngest child in the family. In spite of poverty, she has strong passion to develop education in her remote hometown by dreaming to become a Khmer teacher at her school. Her father is a seasonal worker and can earn approximately $4.00 per day. Her mother grows vegetables around house and she makes profit from selling those vegetable about 0.75-1.25$ per day. In order to complete demand in family, Sokhun has to force herself to be absent from school very often to help her mother because her mother has her arm broken and she cannot do hard work.

She maintains her perfect attendance.
