Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Rina is 13 years old, student in grade 7 at The Doris Dillon School in Phnom Toch village, Sdach Kong Khang Tboung Commune, Banteay District, Kampot province.

Rina has 2 siblings, and she is the first child in the family. Her father’ name Dy Boeun her mother’s name Sao Ran, both of them are farmers. The family owns haft hectare of farmland where they can earn up $250 a year in rice production. As this is not enough to support the family’s needs, Rina’s father has to work outside. Her’ father has to work as a traditional singer for local ceremony in his village. One event he can earn 30,000 riels. Even additional income is yet not enough to support the family and their children’s everyday school needs. Rina commonly has to miss school to stay home and help taking care her siblings, help in the rice field and other housework with her mother.

Rina wants to be a teacher in her community. She wants to teach all kids in her location. Also, she wants to build girl up and give the women encouragement.
