Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Chan Sreypov

Chan Sreypov is a 12-year-old student in 5th grade at The Shintoshin Rotary and Speros (Hawaii) School in Pal Hal Village, Rik Reay Commune, Rovieng District, Preah Vihear Province.

She was born in a big family with 8 siblings. She comes 8th in the family. The family makes their living by growing rice, but their rice field is so far from home that when planting or harvesting season arrives, they have to leave home to stay on the farm until work finishes. Sreypov always helps with house work or sometimes she is hired to harvest rice for the people in the village. The family work hard, but they earn a little. They cannot survive on their rice crops. In addition, her mother is suffering from a serious illness (a lump in her reproduction organ). So the family lives in poverty and hardship.
