Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Kanhou Nheap

Kanhou Nheap is a 13 -year old girl who was selected into the Girls Be Ambitious Program.

Now, she is in her 4th grade at The Gloria and henry Jarecki Special Skills School in Norg Leak village in Ratanakiri Province.

Nheap is the first child in a family of five members. Her parents are poor farmers. They own two hectares of farming land. The harvest from this small plot is not enough to sustain the family throughout the year and they have to work as farm laborers in the village. Nheap often had to stay home in order to help her family and carried out chores around the house and looked after her younger siblings. Due to these difficult conditions, Nheap was often absent from her school.

After staff from the Girls Be Ambitious Program explained her family about the benefits of education for the future, they agreed to support Nheap to go back to school regularly.
