Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Duong Ya

Duong Ya is a 15 year-old student in grade 9 at The CREDO School in Ang Kanh Village, Me Teuk Commune, Bakan District, Pursat Province.

She has three siblings: two boys and one girl. They did not have land for farming. So her mother and father have to do immigration to Thailand in order to earn money. Her parents send $30 per month to support their children. She and her siblings are living with her old grandmother who is jobless. Because of the difficult situation of her family Ya must help with harvesting rice for the neighbor in order to earn money. Other times she helps her grandmother to do house work.
