Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Keo Navann is 15 years old, student in 9th grade at Angk Daun Pis Village Learning Center (#550), located in Angk Daun Pis Village, Toeuk La-ak Commune, Korng Pisey District, Kampong Speu province.

Her mother owns 5,000 m2 of farmland where they can produce rice about 1,000 to 1,500 kg per year. Her mother can sell the rice products of 500 kg for $150 to support the daily need of the family and the reset she kept to eat during a year. Out of her owned farm work, her mother also accept other labor work like farming, harvesting to get some more extra income, she can make about 10,000 riels per working day, and this kind of job now is very difficult to find because most of the farmers they used/rent the harvesting machines. The income is not enough to support the daily need of the family, even though her mother always encourages her daughter to go school not to miss.

Every day, Navann rides her bicycle to school about 4 km round-trip. She is a smart, good student and study hard in the class.  After school, she helps her mother housework on whatever she can do she just helps to do it because there are only two of them, mother and daughter.
