Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Nguy Soriya

Nguy Soriya is an 11 -year-old student who entered the Girls Be Ambitious program in 2016. At the time, she enrolled in grade 3 at The Tokyo-West Rotary Club School #86 in Peam Khvav village, Dom Bokroung commune, Phnom Srouch District, Kampong Speu Province. She is now in the fifth grade.

Soriya has five sibling, three sisters and two brothers, and she is the youngest child in the family. Her parents are farmers and they own about one hectare of farmland. Their farmland is in rain-fed area, so they can grow rice only once a year and the productivity of their farmland are low, they can get only 1200kg of rice from their land every year. Besides doing rice farm, they work as seasonal workers to earn more money. Soriya has to respond to do housework despite of her young age.

She maintains her perfect attendance and she is very enjoying school.
