Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Hieng Navin

Hieng Navin is a 15 –year-old student in the 8th grade at The House of Joy and Happiness School in Thkeng village, Rohas commune, Rovieng district, Preah Vihear province.

Hieng Navin is the youngest in her family, having two older brothers, and two older sisters. Navin’s  parents own 19m × 30m of farmland , ten chickens and two cows. Both of Navin’s parents work on their farm, and her father also makes palm sugar.  The main income for the family is what they make from their rice and palm sugar sales.  Navin’s family can make up to $62.50 per year from their rice sales, and the sales of the palm sugar can make up to $3.75 per day. The total income from the rice and palm sugar is not enough to support their family’s needs. Navin is a very good student, as she works very hard to create a good future for herself.  Navin studies hard, is very well disciplined, obeys her teachers and has very good attendance.  In her free time, Navin helps her parents with housework and in the fields, and never complains about the hard work she does.  In the future, Navin wants to be a good lecturer.
