Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Dorn Marina

Dorn Marina is a 10 years old student in 5th grade at The Shintoshin Rotary and Speros (Hawaii) School, which is located in Pal Hal village, Rik Reay commune, Rovieng district, and Preah Vihear province.

Marina was born in a poor family. She has gotten 3 siblings including her. She is the second child in her family. Unfortunately, her mother was died by chronic disease. Marina said that, they do not have their own land for growing rice and nowadays her father has plied as a carpenter and he has earned $5 per day in order to buy daily food.

Besides the harvest season Marina’s father has plied miscellaneous job such as he has created charcoal oven and gotten the income from selling the charcoals for solving their family’s needs. Marina addressed that her father has sold charcoals twice a month and they could benefit from the selling charcoals between $40 and $50 per month. Marina stated that her family tries to work hard every day but it still doesn’t cover her needs.
