Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Phorn EngLeang

Phorn EngLeang is an 11-year-old student in 7th grade at The CREDO School in  Ang Karnh Village, Metoek Commune,  Bakan District, Pursat Province.  She lives in Trang village, Metoek Commune, Bakan District, Pursat Province.

EngLeang is the sixth child in the family. She has seven siblings. She is an orphan her father who died six years ago. Her mother is a widow to feed her kids in her family, and she is a farmer. She works on her land around 2 hectares; she can collect harvests about 2 ton per year.  In addition to farm work, Leang and her mother have to harvesting rice and other farm work for neighbors to make extra money to support her family. For this work they get $5 a day. This income is not enough for her family. After school, she helps her mother house work and look after her youngest sibling.
