Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Sem Dany

Sem Dany is 18 years old student in 9th grade at The IROHA School which is located in O Svay village, O Svay commune, Thalaborivath district, and Stung Treng province.

Dany was born in a poor family and she has five siblings including her. She is the third born in the family. They haven’t had their own farmland to produce rice. Her parents have leased farmland from other neighbors to produce rice and could get about 13 to 15 sacks of rice per year. For one sack contains about 50kgs to 60kgs. Dany said her parents have sold 8 sacks of rice to pay the farmland owner and fertilizers. Dany said that the revenue from selling rice couldn’t cover her clothes, school supplies and school uniforms. Therefore, sometimes she asks permission from school for a few days off in order to find little supplementary income with her parents.

For her future goal, she wishes to be a specialized mathematics and English language teacher because she prefers to teach these subjects to the next generation.
