Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Morn Sothiny

Morn Sothiny is 16 years old, and in grade 8 at The Ang Daun Pis Village Learning Center #550, located in Korng Pisey District, Kampong Speu province, donated by the students of the Australian International School Singapore.

There are four members in her family, one father, one mother, one brother, and Sothiny. She is the second child in the family. Her father’s name is Moel Siphat, 48 years old. Her mother’s name is Lorn Srey Neang, 38 years old. Her parents are farmers who own one hectare of farmland for growing rice which can produce about 2,500 kg of rice per year. Her family is able to sell some rice, earning 1,000,000 riels per year, this amounts used for supporting meals, fertilize, and Sothiny’s studying, and the rest of the rice used as food for the family. When they relaxed from the farmland, her mother sells a little grocery at home. Sothiny works hard in class, and when she gets home, she always helps her mother to do housework and other chores.

In the future, Sothiny wants to be a businesswoman; therefore, she can have much time to take care of her family, anyway she wants to have more income to help and support her family to live a better life.
