Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Soam Theara

Theara is a 14-year-old student in 8th grade at The Bret Harte Middle School/Almaden Community in Sangker Doch village, Sdech Kong Tbaung commune, Banteay Meas district, Kompot province

She is the first child in the family. She has a younger brother. Her parents are farmers. They have their own farmland for growing rice, which can produce 670 kg of rice a year. As the family has a shortage of money, her father sometimes goes to work as a construction worker for his neighbors for extra income. Theara has to help the family earn money for their daily needs. Also, she has to look after her younger brother and do housework after class.
