Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Chin Chakriya

Chin Chakriya is an 11 years old student in 5th grade at The Shintoshin Rotary and Speros (Hawaii) School, which is located in Pal Hal village, Rik Reay commune, Rovieng district, and Preah Vihear province.

Chakriya was born in a poor family with five members including her. She is the third born in the family. She had no mother because her mother was died two years ago by phthisis. As for her father, he married a new wife after her mother passed away for one year. Recently, he has been living with his new wife’s house and he remained her and her siblings to live with her grandmother.

Chakriya said they presently have one hectare of farmland for growing rice and they could gather the rice from 10 to 15 sacks per year. Although, they could gather the rice output of 10 to 15 sacks per year but they didn’t sell it out because they just kept it for their daily consumption.

Because of the lack so sometimes Chakriya was asked to stop from school for a few days by her grandmother in order to help find a little income from the cashew farms’ work.
