Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Chan Sreymey

Sreymey is a 12 years old student in Grade 6 at the Janie’s School in Snam Preah commune, Bakan district, Pursat province.

There are five members in her family. She has one brother and three sisters. And she is the fifth daughter in the family. Her father’s name is Vuthy and her mother’s name is Korn. Both of them got divorced. Then her father got a second wife. And leave Sreymey’s mother alone. Now her widow mother doesn’t have any jobs at other places. She’s only growing some kinds of vegetable on the land around her house for selling at the market and for food to feed the family. She doesn’t have any farmland for growing rice.

From Morning to evening she doesn’t have much free time, because she helps her mother in growing vegetables, do all kinds of housework and she also take care and look after her old grandma at home too.
