Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Pheap Samnang

Pheap Samnang is a 12-years-old student in 4th grade at The Lefkowitz Family School in Tram Shes village, Beung Bat Kandol commune, Bakan district, Pursat province.

Pheap Samnang has seven siblings, four sisters and three brothers and she is the sixth child in her family. Her parents had passed away and left no lands for growing. Nowadays, she lives in a small house with 67 years-old grandmother names Khim, who raises other three grandchildren that ages only 1 and 2 years-old. The grandchildren’s parents migrate to Thailand to find jobs there. They send 3000 Bath a month for their children’s milk, rice and food. However, the incomes still not enough to support family. Due to difficult situation, Samnang spends her free time to work at rice field that earn only a small package of money and sometime she skip school. Moreover, she spends her free time to look after her nieces when her grandmother goes to catch fish.
