Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Oul Seav Er is 13 years old, a student who entered the Girls Be Ambitious Program in February 2016. At that time, she enrolled in the 7th grade at the CREDO school in Angkarnh village, Metoek Commune, Bakan District, Pursat Province. She is now in 8th grade. She lives in Trang village.

SeavEr is the only child in her family. She lives with her parents and they are farmers. Her family is very poor. They have a small house will a palm leave wall. After their farming, her mother sells some cakes in the primary school that she can earn about 10,000 riels per day. All the income are not enough to support the daily needs of the family living, so to support their child to study is a big concern for them. But they always work hard. SeavEr’s mother said “I want my daughter to study higher and have a good job in the future. I do not want my daughter the same as me, have no education and cannot find a better job like others that they have some knowledge. The life is very difficult even we try to work very hard but we still have no enough even three meals a day”. After finish school, Seav Er always helps her mother to work in kitchen and other housework. But she usually busy with her studying. She likes to do exercise and reading.

In the future, she wants to be a teacher like her aunty. She thinks it is good for her. And her mother does not want her to work far from their homeland. She wants to earn money to support her family and renovate her house better.
