Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Sok Da

Sok Da is a 14 year-old girl was selected into Girls Be Ambitious Program in 2013 .Now, she is in her 7 grade at The Gloria and henry Jarecki Special Skills School in Norg Leak village in Ratanakiri.

Da is the first child in a poor family. She lives with her parents. The yearly harvest from the small plot is not enough to sustain the family throughout the year. For additional income, they have to work as farm laborers in the village. Due to this dire poverty, the family can only afford two meals a day.  Living in such difficult conditions, Da had to help her family with all the work around the house as well as on the farm. So, she was often absent from school.

After staff from the Girls Be Ambitious Program talked to her family about the benefits of education, they agreed to send Da back to school. Da and her family are very happy to get this opportunity.

Sok Da is able to attend her class regularly since she was selected and supported by the GBA program with good study performance.
