Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Sang Ratanak

Sang Ratanak is an 11-year-old student in 5th grade at The Tokyo-West Rotary Club in Peam Khvav village, Dom Bokroung commune, Phnom Srouch District, Kampong Speu Province.

Ratanak has three siblings, two sisters and one brother, and she is the eldest child in family. Her parents are farmers who own about one hectare of farmland. Their rice farm provides very low yield each year, only 1600kg of rice per year because they don’t have money to buy fertilizer and their farming is completely depended on rain. In order to earn more money, her parents work as seasonal workers during transplanting and harvesting seasons. Ratanak has to help her mother to do housework every day. Those works has kept her away from class frequently.
