Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Hem Pet

Hem Pet is a 10 year- old student in Grade 2 at The Gloria and Henry Jarecki Special Skills School, #227, Norg Leak village, O’Chum commune, O’Chum district, Ratanakiri province.

She has three sisters. She is the third child in the family. Her parents are very poor farmers and they have two hectare of farmland but the land is very poor. They grow cashew trees, rice, and mixed vegetables and the yearly harvest is not enough to support the family. For additional income, they need to work as days laborers for their neighbors. They can get very little money from this work. So, sometime they have to borrow money from others and need to pay interest. Pet had to look after her younger sister and do chores around the house.
