Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Profile: Pin Sokeo is a 17 -year-old girl in Grade 7 at the The Clark Hamagami School which is located in KabPrikVillage, Preah Phos Commune, Koh Kralor District, Battambang Province.

Sokeo’s family owns two hectare of land for growing rice which they can produce about 600kg rice a year, these product is for selling and the only income for their family. However, the crop is also pay to the fertilizer and the seed that they owed for their farm. Besides, her mother weaves kind of grass used for thatching roofs. From these work, she makes about $15 in ten days for extra income and her father play traditional music in the village when there is wedding or traditional ceremony. Sokeo and three younger siblings was unable to attend their class regularly especially Sokeo, who is the oldest child. She had to do housework, collect the water, plant potato, and work on the rice field with her parent since her father lose his left eyesight.
