Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

To Be Selected

Sreyheap is13years old, and in the 7th grade at the Rak Smey Rik Reay junior high school in Bos Village, Rik Reay Commune, Rovieng District, Preah Vihear Province.

Sreyheap was born in a poor family with 11 members: her parents, 7 older sisters, one older brother and one younger brother. She is the eighth child in her family. Her parents are farmers who own one hectare of farmland to grow rice, which can produce 700 – 900 kg of rice a year, but the harvest is not enough to sufficiently support the family. Besides working in the field her parents work as day laborers, earning a very small income.

As the family has a shortage of money and time, Sreyheap has to help the family to do house work and cook meals when her mother is away. Additionally, sometimes the neighbors hire her to harvest rice, earning 15,000 Riel per day.

In the future she wants to be a teacher because she loves this job, she likes teaching and she wants to share her knowledge to the kids. Moreover, she wants to earn money to support her family and give them an opportunity to live a better life.
