Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Ren Karona

Karona is 10 years old student in 3rd grade at Grace, Hope, Beloved school, which is located in Boeng Veng village, Tangkrasang commune, Batheay district, and Kampong Cham province.

Karona was born in a very poor family with four members including her parents and her youngest brother. Her parents are farmers and they own half hectare of farmland for growing rice. Karona said that every year her parents could produce about 800kg of rice which is unable to consume enough for a whole year.

Therefore, her parents must find surplus work to do such as they grow vegetables and sell them in the market in order to earn $3 per day to organize the family’s food from day by day. Anyhow, only $3 is not enough to cover for all the family’s needs so Karona’s father sometimes goes to the lake to catch snails and fishes to sell in order to add little income to buy uniform and school supplies for Karona.

For Karona’s future goal; she wishes to be a teacher of Khmer literature because she loves teaching Khmer course for kids of a next generation.
