Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Mai Cheu

Mai Cheu is a 9 year- old student in Grade 2 at The Gloria and Henry Jarecki Special Skills School, #227, Norg Leak village, O’Chum commune, O’Chum district, Ratanakiri province.

She is the first child in the family and she has one sister. Her parents are farmers but the rice harvest is not enough to feed their family. Besides working on their own farm, her father works clearing grass, pulling out the potatoes, chopping the potatoes, and doing other farm work for neighbors. For this type of work he earns around $4.50-$ 5.00 a day. Her mother also harvests rice for the neighbor’s farm. Although her family works very hard, they still face a lot of difficulties.
