Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Chhun Tola

Chhoun Tola is a 14 year girl who was selected into the Girls Be Ambitious Program in 2013.Now, she is in 6th grade at The Gloria and Henry Jarecki Special Skills School in Norg Leak Village in Ratanakiri Province.

Tola is the 3rd child in a poor family of six members. Her parents are poor farmers. The farming does not produce enough rice to cover the needs of this family. For additional income, her parents have to work as day laborers for other villagers but this is not regular work, so they still do not have enough food to eat. In order to help the family to earn more income,Tola had to skip classes in order to work on the farm.
After staff from the GBA talked to her family about the importance of education, they agreed to send Tola back to school. Tola is very happy to come back to school and her family is very excited for this opportunity.

With the support from the GBA program, Tola is very enjoying school. She maintains high attendance and has many friends who are among her classmates.
