Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Dem Monyrath

Dem Monyrath is a 14 -year-old student in the 8th  grade at The House of Joy and Happiness School  in Thkeng village, Rohas commune, Rovieng district, Preah Vihear province.

Monyrath is the youngest child in her family, and has one older brother.  Monyrath’s family are living in a small house on their land of 18m×25m. Monyrath’s family uses their land to raise 10 hens and three cows, as well as to grow rice and vegetables.  Monyrath’s family’s sole income is from their rice sales.  On average, the family is able to produce three tons of rice, which makes $300 per year.  This is not enough money to support the families daily needs as well as Monyrath’s studies.  As a result, it is difficult for Monyrath’s to go to school and study hard, as she does not have the funds, and has regularly help her parents in the rice fields.
