Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Brem Samnang

Brem Samnang is a 17 year- old girl who was selected into Girls Be Ambitious Program 2015. She is now in the 10 grade at The Margaret & Derek Jerram School in Kraul Chi Village, Kraul Chi Commune, Boribo District in Kampong Chhnang Province.

Samnang is the third child in the family. She has two sisters and two brothers. Her parents are farmers but the rice harvest is not enough to feed their family. Besides working on their own farm, her father works clearing grass, making fences and doing other farm work for neighbors. For this type of work he earns around $4.00 a day. Her mother also harvests rice for the neighbor’s farm.

With the support from the GBA program, Samnang is greatly enjoying school, is maintaining high attendance and has many friends in her classes.
