Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Thea Sreyleak

Phea Sreyleak is a 10 year- old student in Grade 3 at The Gloria and Henry Jarecki Special Skills School, #227, Norg Leak village, O’Chum commune, O’Chum district, Ratanakiri province.

She has two sisters. She is the second child in the family. Her father is a policeman and his salary is $125 per month. Her mother is a day laborer in the village and earns money by harvesting rice, clearing up grass, collecting cashew nuts, and doing other odd jobs for neighbors. As the family has a shortage of money, Sreyleak cannot go to school regularly. She stays home and helps her mother do house work and look after her younger sister.
