Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Srey Korb is 15 years old and she is in grade 9 at The Doris Dillon School in Phnom Toch village, Sdach Kong Khang Tboung Commune, Ben Teay Meas District, Kampot province.

There are five members in her family. She has three siblings. She is the youngest child in the family. Her father’ name Mr. Mey Rithy and her mother’ Mrs. Eang Mom. Her parents are famers. The family owns one hectare of farmland. They earn little yield from their farming every year because their rice field is in rain-fed area. With this small amount of income, they cannot support their daily expense. So they need to find jobs or work for other villagers in the village to get more money to support their family. Her father takes care of two cows for his neighbor. The income they get is usually not sufficient for their needs. Srey Korb has to miss school to stay home and help to cook for her family and do other housework.

Srey Korb wants to be a teacher, because she likes to help and share her ideas to all kids in her commune, Moreover, she wants to earn money to support her family to live with a comfortable life.
