Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Sorn Sopheak

Sorn Sopheak is a 14-year-old student in 7th grade at The Bret Harte Middle School/Almaden Community in Sangker Doch Village, Sdech Kong Tbaung Commune, Banteay Meas District, Kompot Province.

She is the fourth child in the family and she has four siblings. Her parents are famer. They have a rice field and raise two cows. She is now living in a small house with her parents. When she’s back from school she needs to go to rice field to help her parents during harvest season. Her parents do farming earning and use this small income to support everyone in family, but this small income cannot support family to survive. They don’t have money to buy such a good foods. Sometimes, they have only rice to eat without food.
