Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

San Rachana is a10-year-old student in the 4th grade at the Cambodia Hope School in Melum village, Melum commune, Baribour district, Kampong Chhnang province.

Rachana is the only daughter in her family. Her father, Born Bunheng is 37 years old  and a farmer. Her mother, Peng Somphas, is 38-years-old, and also a farmer. The family owns half an acre of farm land, in wich they can produce up tp 595 kilograms of rice per year. The family earns between 20,000-25,000 Riels a day selling sugar cane they grow on their land.  Between the months of January to April, the family fishes, and grows vegatables to sell, earning 200,000 Riel a day.

Rachana is a good student and daughter. She works hard in class, and when she is not studying, she is helping her mother with housework.

In the future, Rachana wants to be teacher. She wants to share her knowledge, and teach the children in her commune. Moreover, she wants to financially support her family.
