Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Chea Sovanna

Chea Sovanna is an 8-year-old student in 3rd grade at The Cambodia Hope School in Melum village, Melum commune, Boribo district, Kompong Chhnang province.

Sovanna has no sibling; she is the only child in family. Sovanna has been adopted by her grandmother since she was very young, because there was serious domestic violence in her family and her parents had separated. Until now, Sovanna has never heard any news about her parents. Presently, Sopheak lives with her grandmother who own about half of one hectare of farmland. Due to old age, her grandmother cannot do farming by herself, so she rents her land to her nephew and she gets some rice in return. In rainy season, she grows some vegetables around house. Other source of income is from her relatives who offer her some money during Khmer New year and Pchum Ben festival. Sovanna has to help her grandmother to do housework and to take care of crops around her house.
