Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Ngorn Chanthen

Ngorn Chanthen is a 9-year-old student in 4th grade at The Cambodia Hope School in Melum village, Melum commune, Boribo district, Kompong Chhnang province.

Chanthen has 3 siblings, and she is the eldest child in family. She is orphan whose father died because of committing suicide. Presently, she lives with her mother, grandmother and her two younger siblings. Her younger brother lives with a relative in Siem Reap. Her mother owns about sixty one acre of farmland, but there are not enough labor in family to grow rice. Thus, she rents her land and she gets some rice in return. She does seasonal work such as chopping cassava and harvesting rice.   Chanthen has to help her mother to do housework and take care of her younger sisters and her old grandmother.
