Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Hul Rothy

Hul Rothy is a 15 year-old student who entered the Girls Be Ambitious program in February, 2016. At the time, she enrolled in the seventh grade at The CREDO School in Ang Kanh Village, Me Teuk Commune, Bakan District, Pursat Province. She is now in the eight grade.

Her father passed away many years ago. Her mother decided not to get married again because she was afraid that a new husband would not take cares of her children. She has five siblings: two brothers and two sisters. Rothy is the youngest child in the family. Her mother earns a living by doing farm work on one hectare of farmland, but their yearly harvest cannot cover their needs throughout the year. Therefore Rothy had to help her mother with harvesting rice and other farm work for neighbors to make extra money to support the family.

She is very happy and maintains perfect school attendance.
