Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

To Be Selected

Soy Dav is 15 years old, and in the 7th grade at the Rak Smey Rik Reay junior high school in Bos village, Rik Reay commune, Rovieng district, and Preah Vihear province.

There are 7 members in her family, two parents, two older sisters and two younger sisters. She is the third child in the family. Her parents are farmers, but her mother has had to stop working for many years as she was too sick. The family owns one and a half hectares of land to grow rice, which can produce 1,500 kg of rice per year. This rice is used solely for the family’s consumption, as there is not enough to sell. For additional financial support, her father works at a neighbor’s cashew farm, earning 20,000 to 28,000 Riel per day.

The income from Dav’s father is not enough to sufficiently support the family, so Dav commonly misses school to help her father pick cashews and earn a small income.  a

In the future she wants to be a teacher because she wants to share her knowledge to the kids in her commune and support her family.
