Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Khourn Khunne is a 13 years-old student in 7th grade at The Naohiro Nishiya School in Tbaung Teuk Village, Meanrith Commune, Sandann District, and Kampong Thom Province.

Khourn Khunne has one sister and one brother. She is the first child in her family. Her parents are farmers and owns farming land, which they grow rice to support their living. However, the yearly harvest is not cover sufficiently to respond to their needs and support the family.  After yearly harvest season, Khunne’s father is also a motor taxi driver and he can earn about $2.00 to $3.00 per day. However, her father tried to work hard as motor-taxi driver, but the daily expenses of the family couldn’t work out sufficiently.

Khunne expressed that sometimes, she has to work hard on the rice field as labor in order to get $4.00 of profit to help the family.
