Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Kan Chakriya

Chakriya is a 14 years old student in Grade 6 at The Janie’s School in Snam Preah commune, Bakan district, Pursat province.

There are six members in her family. She has 3 sisters and one brother. Her younger brother is a mute boy. And her parents are farmers. Her family doesn’t have any land for farming. So, her parents must do all kinds of work in the village to get income to support the family. But the little amount of income from the village where they were living doesn’t enough for them to survive. Now, Chakriya lives with her grandparents who look after her every day. Her parents left them to work at Cambodia – Thailand border as farmers. And they just send a little money to their children for daily expenses.

And because of much needs in the family, Chakriya found another part-time job as a worker at brick kiln.
