Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Sum Sreynith

Sum Sreynith is 14 years old, a student in 8th Grade at the Janie’s School in Snam Preah commune, Bakan district, Pursat province.

There are four members in her family. She has one brother and one sister. She is the third child in the family. She is an orphan. Her mother’s name is Ngor and her father had died long time ago. Her mother is a widow farmer. And the family’s farmland can provide the rice about 500kg a year. As a widow woman, she must strong. So in order to get more income to feed the children, she must do something. Now she is also a cooker for all kinds of ceremony and party in the village. And because of the hardworking of their mother, one sister and one brother of Nith had stopped studying to found jobs as laborers; they both didn’t finish 9 Grade.

At home, Nith worked as a collector of the cow’s dung. She collects the cow’s dung to produce fertilizers for farmland. And she sells these fertilizers to the villagers. So the family’s income about 15,000-20,000 riels a day, this work also can help her to get some income for her studying too. She is a hard working girl. She does all kind of housework, because her mother usually goes out to do her work.

In the future, she wants to be a teacher of Mathematic because it is her favorite subject among other subjects at school. She love and good at it. She usually get a high points compared to other subjects. And she knew that mathematic is very important subject for who want to know more in science and technology in present and to the future.
