Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Chhay Sothea

Chhay Sothea is a 17 years old student in 8th grade at The ASIJ School which is located in Chup Krom village, Svay Leu commune, Svay Leu district, and Siem Reap province.

Sothea has gotten only two siblings including her. She is the first born in the family. Her parents are farmers. They have owned half hectare of farmland for growing rice. According to her current living condition, her family have planted rice and they could get for 1.50 ton of rice per year. After the harvest, they sold half ton of rice and got $94.

Although her parents could receive for $94 from selling rice but this benefit was insufficient for their daily needs. Therefore, her father seeks other job as motor-taxi driver that he could get $5 per day for supporting his family. Sothea hasn’t attended the school regularly because of her parents sometimes asks her to look after cows at the rice field.
