Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

To Be Selected

Teng Pheakdey is a 13 years-old girl in grade 5 of Vasaskolan School, which locates in Preymean village, CheangToung commune, Tram Kak district and Takeo province.

Pheakdey has 4 siblings, one sister and two brothers. She is the youngest child in the family. There are 5 members in her family for the present. Her father, Khiev Savoeun 42 years old, is a farmer. Her mother, Chham Sa morn 39 years old and she is a farmer. They were divorced when she was 6 years. Her parents are living an apart. She lives with her grandmother. They have 40A of farmland, which produces 25 sacks of rice per season to keep for daily eating for a whole year. Their income is 25$ per month which is from selling chicken and pigs which feeding in home. She always helps her grandmother to cook and washing clothes. She likes reading the books and plays with neighbor’s children.

In the future, she wants to be a Khmer literature teacher because she wants to share her knowledge to children. She thinks that she will be the role model for children. She will motivate and encourage them to fully participating in class. She expects her community to be up from one generation to the other generation. She added when she succeeds in her dream and she will help her poor family to live in a  better condition.
