Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

To Be Selected

Thort Sivsey is 15 years old, and in the 8th grade at the Rak Smey Rik Reay junior high school in Bos Village, Rik Reay Commune, Rovieng District, Preah Vihear Province.

There are five members in the family, her parents, one older sister and one younger brother. She is the second child in her family. Her parents are farmers who own one and a half hectares of farmland to produce 1,000 kg of rice a year. However, the family does not sell the rice, but keeps it for their daily consumption.  Additionally to working on their own farm, her father works as a farmhand on a neighbors farm, earning 15,000 – 20,000 Riel a day, but it is not regular work. Her mother also grows some vegetables at home to support her family.

Sivmey is a good student and daughter, she works hard in school, and when she gets home, she helps her mother with housework, watering the vegetables, and chores.

In the future she wants to be a teacher because she loves this job and wants to share her knowledge with the kids. Moreover, she can help support her family and provide a better life for them.
