Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Eurn Sreyden

Sreyden is a 13 years old student in Grade 5 at the Janie’s School in Snam Preah commune, Bakan district, Pursat province.

There are four members in her family. She has one brother and two sisters. She is the fourth child in the family. Her father went to work away in Thailand as a worker in the construction site near Cambodia border. He gets salary $100 per month. And her mother doesn’t do any job; she stays at home and lied on the bed. She usually gets sick because of her serious illness for long time ago. Most of the family’s income spent for medicines to treat her mother, this is the reason which brought this family fall into property. So to resolve the family’s problem, her only brother and two sisters decided to stop studying at school and then followed their father to work at a construction site in Thailand near Cambodia-Thai border.

Sreyden stays at home with her sick mother. She looks after her and does every kinds of housework. And she also grows some vegetable around her house for food. Her family doesn’t have any farmland for growing rice.
