Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Oun Chin

Oun Chin is 16-year-old girl in grade 7 at the David and Deborah Roberts School in Ta Ream village, Tbeng Commune, Kampong Svay District, Kompong Thom Province.

Uon Chin’s mother passed away when she was five years old. Her father is a farmer, but does not have his own farming land. Chin’s father work on his sister’s land to make their living but the yearly harvest cannot cover their needs throughout the year. He also fishing can catch farm crabs for food and sell in the village, from that he makes about $1.50 or $2.00 per day to supplement income. Chin used to help her father on the rice field, or to fishing and catch crabs because of her poor living conditions.

Chin was selected into the Girls Be Ambitious program when she was in grade 3, she now enjoy her schooling and studying. She attends her class regularly and always study hard.
