Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Hon Somothea

Hon Somothea is a -13 year-old student in 8th grade at The House of Joy and Happiness School in Thkeng village, Rohas commune, Rovieng district, Preah Vihear province.

Hon Somothea has two brothers and she is the first child in her family. Her parents are farmer and they raise 2 cows and 6 hens in their home. Somothea’s family works at the rice field to produce the rice to support their living and sell it to get money and buy necessary things. The output from the rice field is about 1.5 tons per year. If they sell it they will gain 300 dollars. However, they cannot sell all out; they have to keep it some to eat in daily. Because it is a small package of money they hold, so it absolutely not enough to support Somothea’s studying well like other students. She has to walk struggling to reach her goal.
