Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Nem Rina

Rina is a 13-year old student in 6th grade at The Wakako Hironaka School, Rovieng District, Preah Vihear Province.

Rina has one older brother who is studying in middle school. Rina’s parent got divorced, her father remarried and never care the two kids and left them with their mother. Her single mother is a poor farmer day labor, and grows vegetable to make their living, which still generate very little income to support the daily needs. Rina and brother have to work with their mother on the rice field, sometimes for their neighbor where Rina can make about $3 per day. Sometimes, they catch the frog, crab for food and sell to her neighbor, and due to the poor living conditions Rina spend most of her time after class helping her mother to earn more money.
