Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Sam Kalyan

Sam Kalyan is a 13 year old student in grade 7 at the Green Family School in Takeo province, Kirivung district, Angbrasat commune, Chong Angbrasat village.

Kalyan has a brother and a sister and is the second child in her family.  Kalyan’s family owns half a hector of farm land which produces 900-1000 kg of rice a year, resulting in the family to become poor, as majority of their profit has to go back into maintaining their farmland.  As a result, there is not enough food or money to buy necessary school supplies.  Additionally, when Kalyan is not at school, she needs to help with maintaining her family’s land, do housework and take care of her younger brother every day.
