Girls Be Ambitious

A program that enables girls who are unable to go to school due conditions of poverty to attend one of our rural schools and receive an education instead of having to work in the fields, do chores at home or take care of siblings.

Soth Sreykhema

Khema is a 14 years old student in Grade 4 at the Janie’s School in Snam Preah commune, Bakan district, Pursat province.

There are six members in her family. She has two brothers and three sisters. She is the fifth child in the family. Her father’s name is Lorng and her mother’s name is Korng. Her father is a palm tree climber for people in the village. And her mother is a housewife. Her family doesn’t have any farmland for growing rice like other family in the village. So, they have to buy rice from the villagers to feed the whole family. Her father can fine income approximately $2.5 per day. This low income can’t feed the six members in the family to survive, it means they all live property and hunger. To resolve this problem, one of her older sister decided to stop studying at public school and then go to find a job as a worker at the market in city province to get some extra money for helping the family.
